Eduardo Cunha ,President of Brazil’s Lower House, on Thursday said
that the parliament was set to commence impeachment proceedings against
President Dilma Rousseff. Cunha said Rosseff was suspected of
falsification of state accounts, among other crimes.
Reacting to the development, Rousseff denied any wrongdoing and said
she was indignant at the accusation. If a special committee that
includes representatives of all parties accepts the impeachment, it will
go to a vote of the full lower house.
The impeachment process needs a two-third majority in the lower house
followed by the same majority in the upper house to remove the
president from office
