BREAKING: Simon Achuba sworn in as Kogi deputy governor

 

Mr. Simon Achuba has been sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Kogi State after the state House of Assembly approved his nomination for the position.
Governor Yahaya Bello had sent a letter containing his nomination as deputy governor to the Assembly on Monday after weeks of deliberations.
Achuba was sworn in as deputy governor behind closed doors at the banquet hall of the Government House shortly after the House endorsed his nomination.

BREAKING: Court rejects Kanu’s request for his seized passports, money

 
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday dismissed an application by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biaf‎ra, Nnamdi Kanu, for the release of certain items, including his British and Nigeria passports, which are in the custody of the Department of State Service.
Justice James Tsoho dismissed the application made orally by Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Chuks Muouma (SAN), who had sought the release of the items because they would not be needed by the prosecution since they were not listed as part of exhibits to be tendered.

More than one million Syrians are trapped in besieged areas, a new report says in a challenge to the United Nations, which estimates just half that amount and has been accused by some aid groups of underplaying a crisis.
The fate of Syria's besieged is at the heart of peace talks that quickly fell apart last week in Geneva and are set to resume by Feb. 25. Negotiators for the opposition had insisted that the Syrian government stop besieging civilians before talks could truly begin.

Man trapped under avalanche pulled out 6 days later

An Indian soldier buried by an avalanche for six days in the Himalayan region of Kashmir has been found alive and was pulled from the snow, along with the bodies of nine other soldiers, officials said Tuesday.
The enormous avalanche slammed into an Indian army post last Wednesday and trapped the 10 soldiers on the northern end of Siachen Glacier, the highest point along the heavily militarized line of control between India and Pakistan. After a day of searching for survivors, the army had said Thursday that the chance of finding survivors was "very remote."

Health Minister says ministry's budget submitted to the Senate is different from the one it submitted to Budget office

While appearing before the Senate committee on Health to defend its 2016 budget yesterday February 8th, the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, said that his ministry's budget proposal submitted to the Senate is different from the one they wrote and sent to the budget office.

Popular actor Arakangudu is dead
















The popular well-built Nollywood actor Arakangudu is dead. Arakangudu died between Monday night and Tuesday morning, February 8-9 of cardiac arrest in Kaduna where he was undergoing a course.
The baritone-voiced actor who practiced his trade in the Yoruba genre of Nollywood is known for his portrayal of herbalists and armed robbers. He was also a movie producer and has produced many award-winning movies, among them Iya Oko Bournvita, Agba Osugbo, Aje Olokun, Ogbologbo, Ilu Gangan. He was also a movie director and directed a couple of movies.
