Nigeria: Flood Sacks Over 3,000 Families in Kaduna

Kaduna — Over 3,000 families have been displaced by flood which ravaged some parts of Kaduna State yesterday following heavy downpour, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) said.
Houses along waterways including Kigo Extension, Romi, Rafinguza, Down-Quarters, Legislative Quarters in Ungwar Dosa, Barnawa, Kudenda, Kinkinau at Ungwar Muazu, Ungwar Romi and Shooting Range in Kabala among others were heavily affected.

Unconfirmed sources said one person died in Rafinguza, Igabi LGA and that over 30,000 persons were displaced but the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Ezekiel Baba-Karik, said the death was yet to be confirmed.
According to him, about 10 local government areas and over 3,000 families were affected.
"Though our assessment team is still working and we are still making our findings on the cause and the extent of damage, there has been continuous downpour in the state for about three days, which could also be a contributing factor," he said.
He urged residents living close to water ways to vacate such areas.
Our reporters who visited some of the affected areas saw many submerged houses and cars among others while residents were seen evacuating their children and belongings, heading for safer places.
