Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State on Saturday, announced
free medical service scheme for children, aged five years and below.
Speaking at the inauguration of the scheme, the governor said health
care delivery in the state, would be strengthened through a five point
agenda initiated by his administration.
According to him, the state government would improve funding of the
health sector and intensify awareness campaign on health issues.
He then called on medical workers and health institutions to assist
in the implementation of programmes aimed at enhancing the sector.
Alhaji Abubakar Misau, Acting Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of
Health, had earlier said the launching of scheme signified the
importance the state government attached to the younger generation.
He said that the governor’s payment of N160m counterpart fund to Bill
& Melinda Gates and Dangote Foundations for routine immunization,
was a further testimony that health sector was receiving the attention
it deserved.
