AFRICA NEWS AND UPDATE:South Africa: Pres Zuma, Ministers Pay Tribute to Mqwebu

 


Pretoria — President Jacob Zuma has joined South Africans in mourning the death of veteran small screen actor, Roland Mqwebu, popularly known as Mkhize in the sitcom Emzini Wezinsizwa.
Mqwebu died on Friday morning at the age of 74 years after a long illness.


President Zuma said he was saddened to learn of this celebrated legend in the field of arts and culture.
"The industry has lost one of its much loved and talented actors and the country is much poorer without him. On behalf of government and all South Africans we convey our sincere condolences to the Mqwebu family, relatives, friends and all in the entertainment industry. May Mr Mqwebu's soul rest in eternal peace," the President said on Saturday.
Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa as well as Communications Minister Faith Muthambi were also shocked by the Mqwebu's death.
