105-year-old Japanese sprinter challenges Usain Bolt to a race

Japanese centenarian Hidekichi Miyazaki also known as 'Golden Bolt' set a fresh record as the world's oldest competitive sprinter on Wednesday, one day after turning 105. Miyazaki completed his heat with a time of 42.22. His personal record of 34.10, achieved when he was 103-years-old, remains in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Naira Drops Again Before Sallah Celebrations

On Wednesday, September 23, at the parallel market, the Nigerian currency depreciated by N2 against the US dollar.
On the last working day of this week the naira traded N222 against the dollar, while Monday’s and Tuesday’s exchange rate was at N220 for one dollar.
Harrison Owoh, an operator of the Bureau de Change, explained that the currency’s drop in the value was connected to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s failure to sell enough foreign currencies.

Insurgency unislamic, says Sultan

he Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared that all acts of insurgency are unislamic.
“Insurgency is against the tenets of Islam and it is against the cultures and norms of Muslims in Nigeria and the world over,” the sultan said in Sokoto on Thursday in his Sallah message to Muslims in the country.
Abubakar, however, said there had been tremendous achievements in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the North East Zone of the country.

Africa: More Than 300 Die in Deadliest Haj Crush Since 2006

Mina, Saudi Arabia — At least 310 pilgrims were killed on Thursday in a crush atMina, outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca, where some two million people are performing the annual haj pilgrimage, Saudi authorities said.
At least 450 others were injured in the stampede, which took place on Street 204 of the camp city at Mina, a few kilometres east of Mecca, where pilgrims stay for several days during the climax of the haj.
The pilgrimage, the world's largest annual gathering of people, has been the scene of deadly disasters in the past, including stampedes, tent fires and riots.
